Prof. Dr. Ariel Odriozola Orlandi is an Endocrinologist and Nutritionist. Lead organizer and director of the International Advanced Course CODINEF. Full Member at SED, EASD, Neurodiab and NEURALAD. The head of the Catalan Institute of Endocrinology and Nutrition in Barcelona, Spain.

Alfred Gatt qualified as a podiatrist in 1986. From 1987 till 1990 he set up and worked at the Diabetes Foot Clinic, which is still being run today at Mater Dei hospital. Since 1990 he was placed in charge of Podology Services within Department of Health, a position he has occupied for 20 years. In 1990 he became Manager Podology Service, responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and administration of all Podiatry services within the DH. Because of an extensive interest in Biomechanics, he started two new clinics while working as Manager: a once-weekly Rheumatoid Podiatric Clinic, at St Luke's Hospital and a twice-weekly Gait Assessment Clinic that included Foot Pressure Mapping for the first time in Malta, at the Podology Department at B'Kara Health Centre. Both clinics are still active to date. In 2003 he obtained a Master's degree from the University of Brighton, with research entitled "The use of orthoses in the management of hindfoot pain in Rheumatoid Arthritis". In 2008 he started a PhD at Staffordshire University, entitled "A Biomechanical Investigation of Ankle Joint Complex Dorsiflexion", which had such a profound effect on him that he changed over from management to becoming a full time academic in September 2010. He was awarded his PhD in July, 2012. In 1999 he was founder President of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta. He is presently chairperson of the Diabetes Foot Research Group, which he has helped to launch in 2011. Special interests include CADCAM orthoses, Foot Pressure Mapping, 3D motion capture, foot modeling and biomechanics of musculoskeletal foot conditions.

Dr. Ammar Ibrahim (Dominican Republic): Past Chair (2016-17) of the IDF South and Central American Region. Dr Ibrahim is a surgeon, specialised in diabetic foot care since 1996. He became head of the diabetic foot clinic at the Instituto Nacional de Diabetes, Endocrinología y Nutrición (INDEN) in Santo Domingo in 1999 and has been the General Director of INDEN since 2007.

Professor Pillai is Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with University Hospitals Manchester, Wythenshawe with a specialist interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery. He trained in Orthopaedic and Foot surgery in the West of Scotland, and has undertaken further sub-specialist fellowships in Adelaide, South Australia and Oxford UK. He has also visited and worked with surgeons from SportsMed SA, Mater Hospital Sydney and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth. Furthermore, Mr. Pillai has completed a fellowship in Ilizarov techniques and limb deformity correction at the world renowned Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre in Siberia. He was initially appointed as Consultant to Ninewells University Hospital and Dundee Medical School in Scotland, before moving to the North West. He is a member of both the British and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Societies, AO Trauma UK, Foot & Ankle Scotland and The Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society. He holds honorary academic positions with the Universities of Adelaide, Manchester, Salford and Malaya. He is executive editor for Orthopaedics & Muscular Systems - Current Research and assistant editor for SurgWiki. He also sits on the editorial board for the ANZ Journal of Surgery and the American Medical Journal. He has published and presented widely in numerous national and international meetings. He is a surgical examiner for the University of Salford and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Mr. Pillai was elected to the research committee of the European Foot & Ankle Society, Physician’s resource committee of the American Foot & Ankle Society. He is both a faculty and course director for the British Foot and Ankle Society delivering surgical training programmes.

Andrew Boulton is Professor of Medicine with a special interest in diabetes and its complications at the University of Manchester and Consultant Physician at Manchester Royal Infirmary. His clinical role includes inpatient supervision of patients with diabetic complications and outpatient clinics at the Manchester Diabetes Centre. As director of the DIALEX (Diabetes Lower Extremity) Research Group he is responsible for: planning clinical research into diabetic complications, developing collaborative research with colleagues in Europe and North America, running undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in diabetes and its complications.

Prof. Dr. Bogdan Timar (M.D. PhD, Dr. Habil.) is consultant physician in Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases and Professor of Diabetes. Currently he is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine - "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania and the Chair of the Board of Directors of the "Pius Brinzeu" Emergency Hospital in Timisoara. Prof. Dr. Bogdan Timar is involved in several international and national research projects focused in the area of public health policies and strategies, development of metrics for healthcare quality assessments, analysis of early predictive factors involved in the development of diabetes complications as well as on the socio-economic and quality of life impact of diabetes. Prof. Timar is the founder and initiator of Diabetes Science School, up to date being the most comprehensive and ambitious medical research and medical writing training program for medical researchers in Romania. Bogdan Timar is Associate Editor at Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and The Romanian Journal of Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases.

Prof. Cynthia Formosa qualified as a State Registered Podiatrist from the Department of Health, Malta in February 1989. She worked as a Senior Podiatrist with this department from 1989 to 1994. She then left the Health Department to set up a private practice in Podiatry until 2009. Prof. Cynthia Formosa was awarded the Masters of Science in Podiatry in April 2003 from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom with research entitled ‘The Relationship between the level of diabetes-related knowledge and the incidence of peripheral neuropathy in patients suffering from chronic type-2 diabetes mellitus in Malta’. She was later awarded the PhD in Podiatry in October 2009 from the same university. Her research was entitled 'Culture and the management of Diabetes in Malta'. Prof. Cynthia Formosa is currently working on full-time basis with the University of Malta as an Associate Professor and former Head of Podiatry Department inside the Faculty of Health Sciences. A post which she had occupied for the past 17 years. She was also President of the Association of Podiatrists, Malta for two years and is currently helping the Association with all the educational activities it organises. She is currently a member of the International Federation of Podiatrists and a member of the Clinical Biomechanics and Human Performance Research Team at the Faculty of Health, Staffordshire University. She is also a founder member of the Diabetes Foot Research Group, University of Malta. Prof. Cynthia Formosa has just completed her first Post-Doctoral research focusing on the Prevalence Rate of Diabetes Foot Risk Factors and Complications in the Maltese Diabetic Complications. She is currently working on another research focusing on National Diabetes Foot Screening Guidelines. She was also appointed as a Visiting Fellow on the 1st September 2011 at the Centre for Sport, Health and Exercise Research, Faculty of Health, Staffordshire University.

He is also the author of many papers and chapters in books dedicated to Diabetic Foot Problems. He organizes several international wound care/DF meetings including WOUNDS at VEITH symposium in the US, the Multidisciplinary International Limb and Amputation prevention conference (MILAN) in Europe and the WINTER/SUMMER school of diabetic foot surgery in Milan. He was a co-program director of iLegx. Currently, he is the chief of a Diabetic Foot Centre in Milan, Italy.

Dr. Jose Luis Lázaro-Martínez is a full-time Professor at the University of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). He got his PhD degree at the same university doing his doctoral thesis on biomechanics of the diabetic foot. He is an expert in Podiatric Surgery certified by the Fellowship Board of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He holds a Master of Science Degree on Health’s Research (MSc) by UCM. He is the Head of the Diabetic Foot Unit at UCM. He is Director of both Research Groups in diabetic foot at UCM and at the Institute of Health Investigation of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos at Madrid. He was the Coordinator of the Diabetic Foot Working Group of the Spanish Diabetes Society. He is the Scientific Secretary of the Diabetic Foot Study Group (DFSG) belonging to the European Association of the Study of Diabetes. He is President-elect of Diabetic Foot International. He is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal Diabetic Foot & Ankle. He has numerous publications in international journals indexed in the journal citation report (JCR- more than 70). He has conducted 16 doctoral theses in the field of diabetic foot at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is the organizer and director of the annual course of diabetic foot that is celebrated at UCM with more than 19 editions. Dr. Lee Rogers is a fellowship-trained podiatric surgeon who specializes in diabetic foot ulcers and lower extremity complications of diabetes. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and delivered more than 500 lectures in all 50 states and 30 countries. Dr. Rogers is the President of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. He is a Fellow Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Dr. Prashanth Vas is a highly esteemed consultant diabetologist and diabetes foot physician based in London. He is expert in the management of diabetes and specializes in diabetic foot, Charcot foot, diabetic neuropathy and diabetic nephropathy amongst other areas. He oversees a pioneering multidisciplinary diabetes foot unit, one of the largest in the UK and is particularly renowned for his experience in the management of diabetic foot complications. Dr. Vas completed his initial medical training in India before undertaking extensive post-graduate training at various hospitals across the UK, including the internationally renowned Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. He and fellow collaborators, created the Ipswich Touch Test, a widely recognized method used to assess the loss of protective foot sensation, now adopted by Diabetes UK. Dr. Vas also continues to train and teach professionals at King´s College Hospital. Dr. Vas has previously been an expert advisor to National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and to the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF). He also co-founded The British Diabetic Neuropathy Symposium, the only academic meeting in the UK on this complication of diabetes. Dr. Vas’s research interests include diabetic foot ulcers, diabetic neuropathy (especially small fibre neuropathy) and new techniques to detect neuropathy. He continues to research diabetic foot syndrome and associated health issues.

Dr Pedrosa is the Coordinator of the research at the Diabetes Unit of the Federal District Health Department of Brazil. Linda has been a very active leader and participant in D-Foot International projects over many years. Currently, she is one of the two Chairs of South America Central America Region of D-Foot. She is a powerful advocate for people with diabetic foot disease and preventing lower limb amputations due to diabetes in Brazil. Dr Pedrosa has been at the forefront of diabetes research, she is an excellent team leader and role model for the establishment of specialist treatment centres for people with diabetes and diabetic-related foot disease not only across Brazil but around the world. In the past year, her role has been made even more difficult by the devastating effects of the Covid pandemic on the Brasilian population. Her published research on the impact of Covid-19 on people with Diabetes in Brazil leads the pioneering research in this area. The Board of D-Foot congratulates Linda for this award which is extremely well-deserved.

Vincenza Spallone (MD, PhD) is an endocrinologist profesor at the University Tor Vergata, Rome and the president of EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes) study group NEURODIAB. Professor Spallone graduated in medicine and obtained her board certification in endocrinology and PhD in Endocrinological and Metabolic Sciences from the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy. Her own research is focused on diabetic neuropathy, in particular on the multifaceted expression of cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN), with pioneering studies on CAN impact on kidney function and blood pressure circadian rhythm and on standardization of CAN testing, and on the epidemiology, clinical consequences and diagnosis of painful diabetic neuropathy with validation of DN4. Her research activities have resulted in more than 374 published works (articles, chapters, books, and abstracts) in journals such as Diabetes Care, Diabetologia, Diabetes, Clinical Science, Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery Psychiatry, Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, Pain, and Diabetes and Metabolism.
